Back Story: I'm still on the couch recovering from a broken ankle.
I don't normally get into this genre, but I have fond memories of mixing some death metal bands in the 1990s so this was a bit of fun. I vividly remember one band coming in for a live to digital demo recording with a bunch of 3-5 second shouty songs. I had a hangover by the end of it without imbibing anything but coffee.
I only used a pair of free Samsung Ear buds for monitoring with my laptop on my lap.
To get the guitar sound I used Blamsoft Shredder Overdrive and Kuassa Vermillion Guitar Amp plugins along with some careful (as you can be with ear buds) EQ to give it some grunt.
