My main idea was to study Led Zeppelin sounds, I just happened to pick this multitrack as a material. So my only reference was "Whole Lotta Love". (It's probably not the best reference for this track, but that's what I used.)

It's a great idea with LZ. I like this rough sound!
So a bit lacking hall on drums. And maybe i wanted to hear some tricks with guitar's panning.
I enjoyed listening!

I tried stronger hall sound to drums, but I couldn't make it sound right. I failed, so to speak, and took it down a bit.

It has very cool rhythmic groove caused by delayed room. As if the walls are another percussion instrument. I will certainly try that again with other tracks someday.

With guitars I made the basic trick that reverb is on the other side than the guitar. Although my version is a little milder than what is used in zeppelin. (Maybe because I listen so much with headphones.) But I didn't do those wild pan-knob things. Pan knob must have been a fun toy to have back then, after those strict LCR positions in older mixers.

Maybe gated reverb with more pre-delay will solve the problem?Huh

I tried delaying room sound with 1/16 and 1/18 signals with different feedback settings and dry/wet balances. I think I got the timing bounces about right but I couldn't create good enough room sound. So the pulse was probably ok, but the sound of pulse a bit boring.
With that led zeppelin it sounds as if the room sound doesn't have attack at all, just bouncing and pulsing room energy. Maybe it's not delay at all, it could be also side chained compressor in room mikes. Maybe there's somewhere info about that, must study that.

It’s a good tutorial and great ideas to drum mixing, but it doesn’t explain how to make that room pulse. Actually when I was couple of days ago wathching it, then I saw on the right side a link to that ”isolated drums” clip.

BUT I found from gearslutz an old thread where they debate about effect.

Quite many seems to agree that it’s something like this: 8th note tape delay => plate. (AMong them the quy who owns the UBK-company.) And from another place I found that there was probably no close mics in drum kit, so it would be quite roomy signal to tape delay and to plate. ANyway i’ll try that someday.

Sounds Great Olli, Pretty hard to get that Glynn Johns three mic drum sound when the source is close miked. There's that distortion sound as well like it's been slammed hard onto the tape when they were recording. Would like to know how they did that. I can hear the distortion sound you have achieved coming through on the overheads which is reminiscent of this in a way. The only thing I'm earning for is some extra body on the snare in that 200hz area. I realise adding too much though, would take away from your Zeppelin sound.
