One thing I learned off of this song. The less instruments the less verb you should apply to vocals.

Especially if they are acoustic instruments.
Separation was key to get this mix done however, the bass was kinda hard to fit.

Hope you like this version. Any comments welcome.

Is that vocal ducking the main guitar or is it just the stereo compression?
Ok wait, this is a 3 years old mix, you won't remember. Whatever, I think the way that guitar (probably some other parts too) seems to take a step back when the vocal comes in it's the thing that gives the mix that "pro" feeling (thou that's a horrible word to compliment anything but whatever).

Maybe it's a little too tight for a loose tune like this, but pretty reasonable for these uncivilized days. Great blankey like mix!

Lol to be honest I don't have these tracks in my HD anymore.. I wouldn't know for sure but I don't really use duck compression on instrumentation unless it's a stereo instrumental track and just a box to work with. Perhaps I overcompressed those guitars and that's why it sounds like its ducking but I'm pretty sure I didn't use ducking on the instruments.

Thanks for feedback. Now that I'm listening to it the vocal needs work with multicompression. There are some bad peaks in some phrases that need fixing. Thanks for feedback again.

First of all, I like the mix. The vocal sounds smooth and even; accordion reverb fits. I like how everything is paired down around 2:10 - gives it somewhere to grow from there.
Some other thoughts (keeping in mind it was an old post)
-in general, it sounds "over compressed" so that the transients on stringed instruments are not heard very well - the slap from the acoustic travels from left to right which sounds a little odd to me.
-would probably have deleted the bass noise at the very end
-The bass seems to lack the "upright bass" feel - almost processed to sound like an electric
-timing probably could have been fixed on kick drum around :50
Overall i enjoyed listening, and getting some ideas for my mix as well. Thanks for posting.
