I wasn't sure I'd be able to get a good mix from this track, but pending peer review, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Not enough time to do the sort of creative "filler," SFX, samples, thought about adding an understated electric guitar... so it still feels a little empty to me.

That's pending peer review though... what do you folks think?
Hey pauli,

Love how the vocals sit in the mix..sounds neat...though i'm not a big fan of the drums..the reverb on the snare is too present in the mix..and the kick has lost its punch which i think is pretty important for dnb....it feels a little hollow...i really like that effect on the white noise too when the drum roll comes in...even the balance of the mix is great. Cool stuff Big Grin
Yes, you're right that I took too much of the "beater" sound out of the kick for the genre... very good observation. The reverb on the snare is also not very typical for the genre either, but I did that on purpose Big Grin because I like that sound. In hindsight, though, I think the verb is a bit bright and toppy (which is probably what you're noticing), so I'll have to look into rolling that off when I do a revision. I don't think I applied any ambiance at all to the bass, and consequently those midrange spikes are sounding a bit out of place, so the reverb on the whole track needs a look, maybe.

I had hoped to apply more automation to those white noise FX to make things a bit more interesting, but my time unfortunately is often limited by my noisy and poorly controlled mixing environment. I'm glad you liked it, though... mixes with little melodic content benefit greatly from unique transitions, or fills.

Good observations, Sagar! Looking forward to hearing more of your work and sharing our thoughts.
Haha wow..it's interesting to know how deep you look into the song (about the ambiance to the bass/midrange etc.) hope i could also do that :p
I just go by if it feels right and cohesive it is right. btw since how many years are you doing this?

Yes definitely! Keep in touch Smile
Just under 1 year mixing seriously... You'll be surprised how quickly the attention to detail comes... Especially when others start pointing things out about your mixes Big Grin
Alrighty...let's hope i get there soon enough then Smile
In my opinion you're already showing great promise. You seem to know quite a bit more than I did when I was just starting. My first mixes on this website were mostly just highpass filters and sketchy leveling Tongue
