Mixed this track for a mixing class at MTSU. I really liked the feel of the song and the story behind the lyrics, so it was a lot of fun to work on.

Please feel free to leave any feedback if you feel so inclined, and thank you Robert for such a great song!
I had a listen before coffee.
Overall it works. The tone and blend of the band works. The bass might have too much low end but it's hard for me to tell. Maybe it's a couple of dB hot in the subs. It fights with the kick a bit and the bass guitar is winning. At least in the choruses.

I'm not a fan of the snare sound but I've come to accept it's mostly a limitation of the recorded snare. It's just a bit too small. You've seemed to have gotten a pretty length out of it between the top and bottom snare mic. There is something about it though where it just pokes out. Especially in the chorus. I know there's a large reverb on it but maybe a smaller 'ambience' type reverb blended in might help it mix in with the rest of the band.

The kick could have a little more click/beater tone.

The vocal sounds good. Maybe needs some de-essing. Maybe darken the slap delay or the send to it so the 's'es don't stand out on the effect as much. Or maybe de-ess that delay. I really like the short delay. It adds but doesn't get in the way.

I don't really like the distorted vocal delay. It feels separate from the mix. It could be a bit more subtle and that could work. The timing also feels off but maybe that's just the level of it making the part feel 'pushed'. Overall it's a warm mix and then this harsh element pops up and takes all the focus away instead of supporting the part. It works better when it's on the actual like at the end of the verses but still might be a bit much.

I like the delay on the guitar 2. The when it drops early into the 2nd verse it feels jarring. That could just be me and I'm used to the part but it feels a bit awkward.

I really want something more in the chorus. Maybe a stereo delay on the 2nd vocal to just make the mix open up more.

I'm mostly nit picking. Except for that digital vocal distortion. I wouldn't go tearing down this mix for class. It sounds really good. I'm mostly pointing out things to think about for this mix and future ones. If that makes sense. And if it does explain it to me because my coffee hasn't kicked in yet so this is probably all gibberish. Good job.
Hope that helps.
