I haven't practiced mixing in a while, so I thought I'd try practice and I was so surprised to find the Allen Stone multitrack since I'm a fan.
The audio was extremely well recorded so i kept it light with the mixing. Literally only EQ and compression ...and 1 reverb send.
Please comment your opinions, I'm trying to get better [Image: smile.gif]

(on a side note, I submitted some of my songs' multitracks here. they're 'Dream No. 12' and 'Let the Music Fade Away' by Ricardo Santiago, under singer-songwriter)

Thank you,

UPDATE 12/01/2021: Just bought a bunch of Acustica Audio plugins and decided to open up this old session and test them on the master bus. Love them. Honestly, I now feel like I'm actually mixing with analog gear. It's mix version 3. If you want to geek out about the plugins, reply to this Smile

Hi ricsanram! You are presenting a good sounding and a good balanced mix here. The only thing for me is that it sounds a bit dull. Anyway, good job and many thanks for the 'Dream No. 12' and 'Let the Music Fade Away' Multitracks. Both nice songs and fun to mix. Cheers!
Just uploaded a new version of this beautiful song. I think it sounds nice, fat, and warm. Let me know what you think.

beautiful mix! I have a few Acoustica plugins that I haven't used in a while because my computer hates them lol

Very nice transients and sounds especially on the snare. The bass sounds really big as well. If there was anything I would have added, maybe some heavy saturation on the Keys just barely audible, and only in the side Info. Beaware a big saturation boost will need a 3kish cut on those keys. I think the Keys are a very important factor in this song, and your transients sound nice to me, just a little more full sounding grit in the body would be interesting Smile

I've got the ultramarine(Fairchild and Pultec stuff) and Pink(API stuff)

The pink Preamps are probably what I use the most. They do something that makes a sound slightly fuller, little louder and tames the lows while somewhat retaining transients like nothing else will. I see why they get used on guitar mostly. The acoustica plugin comes with 8 different preamps to choose from and I pretty much only use any of them for vocals if I remember right.

The pink Compressor is amazing. My computer usually hates even 1 instance of it, but from my experience it has great transients and somewhat saturates those transients as well. I've used it on drums many times and the shmod knob was magic whatever it did once the threshold settings were just right.

The Fairchild(Ultramarine) emulation I pretty much mostly used on Guitars. It has a very soft low mid saturation that boosts and smooths the signal. I plan on using it more for some horn tones and things of that nature next time I get to it Smile

I actually use Nebula more than anything. I have some very nice reverbs that sound unlike anything I've came across. However, I can only use 1 of these plugins with nothing else going, so basically if I'm halfway through a mix, there is NO way I could possible run this plugin which is usually when I need it. So I render it down but also introduces Aliasing(which I've mixed long enough it doesn't bother me) and I shape it with EQ as needed. 10/10 that's the most real sounding reverb I've heard from any source so far. Other than that I tend to reach towards my slate reverbs if I want a nice digital tone(Which I've been doing more recently)

Let me know what you got and how you used it. I'm curious to know Smile

Thank you! Yeah that's ONLY thing about Acustica plugins. They're CPU hungry. Currently I only have been using them on the master bus. I don't know how many instances of them I can put on my session before Pro Tools craps out lol.

Thanks! The transients come from the Viridian2 Comp. It's nice and fat. Also, I agree that the keys get a little lost in the mix, but I didn't mind that much since they weren't really the focus. Lately I've been doing my mixes with like a Rembrandt style/approach. Only focusing on the main parts of the mix with detail/clarity, and the rest can be a bit blurry. I will probably try some saturation like you suggest to see what it does to it.

Nice, Ultramarine is on my wish list. I didn't get it just because I got a bunch of cheaper ones instead lol. I got Titanium3, the compressor is nice on vocals (plus the tube tech EQ's are always awesome). I got Viridian2 mainly for the A72s preamp but fell in love with the compressor. I got Cream2 just because it's pretty the Beatles console. The mic preamp is really nice, used this on the master bus. I got Pink4, used the PEQ on the master bus to just shape the mix a bit. It's really nice. I got Amethyst, I heard good things on the EQ, also they're compressor is nice. Lastly I got Lime2, which even thought it's an AMS/Neve I kinda don't care so much for it. I hope I find a good use for it. I like the vintage stuff a lot more. Just love the color and character they give.

I had the Nebula free version for a while, it use to come with preamps, compressors, and reverbs. I would use their SSL preamp sim. That was years ago. For reverb I've been using the Valhalla VintageVerb and I love it. Honestly it's the best reverb I've used. Also I recommend Nomad's 80's reverb. It's very digital but that's the point. For those classic 80's vibes.

Btw, I tried all the freebies from Acustica and they're awesome as well. Nothings beats Acustica in terms of sound, quality, and vibe. It's just we need a super computer to run their plugins lmao.
