HI Guys,

I give you my attempt at mixing Burning Bridges.

I mixed this prior to reading the mixing tips (or the demo mix) for the song at the top of this forum and I think I ended up with something pretty close - a KSE/Trivium vibe (with maybe a touch of Dragonforce towards the end of the solo).

Would love to hear everyone's feedback.

Cheers
Here is another version that is a little tamer in the low end.  Eased up on some of the compression on the rhythm guitars and the vocal bus.Could still do with some multiband compression on the mix bus - but I don't have one.  Also honked up the rhythm guitars a little and did a some automation on the vocals and guitars between the solo and ending.

Enjoy Smile
For me, there is too much distortion and high-end fizz in your mix to really enjoy it. The balancing is solid and you made a lot of good mix decisions, but the distortion ruined it for me. The biggest problem is the snare: It sounds like you`ve run it through Decapitator or some other distortion tool. Could also be a super heavy compression, clipping or limiting that's causing the distortion effect. It sounds especially annoying every time the drummer plays a fill with multiple quick snare hits, almost like a machine gun.

Because you have mentioned it: KSE has a more "thumpy", less distorted snare. You can hear the original drum mix of My Curse (which was a big inspiration for us) here:

Besides that, you don't need multibus compression for a good mix. Concentrate on the basics (balance, automation) and everything else will fall into place.
Thanks for the feedback Blitzzz

Listening to the mix a couple of days later with some fresh ears, I could hear that I went a bit OTT with the compressor.  I also found that I had missed putting the kick on my drum bus and it was going straight to the mix bus.  Fixing that made a huge difference to everything.
Anyways.  Here is my last version for now.
