Hi there,
still not perfect Smile but for me, it's improvement over raw mix Smile
Hi wood Smile i like the smoothness to the mix. I would like some more excitement in the highend though, to make it a tiny more "faster", the mix feels slow some how.
Hi, wod4

Not a bad mix, sounds like you are on the right track, nice job.

However a few remarks:
It sounds a bit cluttered, mostly it's the bass.
I had the same problem for a long time(probably still do) Smile
it sounds like you high cut the bass all the way to the lows,
it is true that the bass is the low end in the mix but cutting the highs on the bass doesn't really help. As a result you have a bass sound that isn't well defined and instead cluttered in the very low end and isn't easily audible. To battle this you compressed it really hard and made it really loud. But without the high mids of the bass you basically just boosted the lows on the whole mix and it made it muddy.
You don't need as much low boost as you think. Instead try boosting the bass at around 80 - 100 hz(depends on the mix but usually its a nice place for bass) without cutting the highs but actually boosting them to give the bass definition so it can be more present in the mix(again depends on the mix where to boost, sometimes I boost even up to 3k hz).

Same goes for the kick, don't cut the highs(not sure if you did but it sound like it). A nice place(IMHO) to boost is at around 60hz(again its always material dependant but its a good starting point) for the low end, and for the "klick" somewhere north of 1k up to 7k depending on where it cuts trough, I even like to high shelf the kick at around 7k sometimes. A lot of the time kicks(especially acoustic ones) have a "flappy" sound in the 200 - 500 hz range that I like to cut.

If you try that you will notice that like "magic" the low end will be audible and a lot mode defined, and you will notice that you don't actually need that huge low boosts. It will also clear up the rest of the instruments in the mix that are somewhat buried now.

Regarding the high end in your mix, I find it hard to tell ATM, it sounds a bit dull but that actually might be the low end issues i mentioned above thats causing it.

In any case I'm in no way expert on this matter and this is just my humble opinion Smile

Nice job! And keep mixing!
Hey,
Drums feel hidden. Vocal need more topend or alt sax need to be tammed a bit on top end range. Feels more importan than vocal. Bass sounds nice although lack of definition. Overall mix is good. Cheers!
