Hi there,

first of all: Thanks to Mike Senior for the great book and the overwhelming collection of multitracks. And of course thanks to the performing musicians for this fine piece of music. Smile

I've been been making and mixing music with my computer for a very long time now (with small to none success Wink and decided i wanted to start learning proper mixing.

So this is my first attempt to mix "handmade" music. I don't currently own a proper monitoring system, so i used my cheap Creative 2.1 speakers and my Beyerdynamic DT770 phones as reference.

Any comments and of course tips are greatly appreciated (though i'm a little bit nervous about it... Wink)

Anyway. Thanks in adavance for your time! Smile

Very nice for your first go at this type of mixing. Very nice use of the stereo field and good overall balance in my opinion. I would suggest trying to achieve more clarity and punch with the snare and also a bit more clarity with the vocals .. might be the reverb choice, not sure. You could probably bring the backup vocals up a tad, too.
Hey bmullen,

thx for your review.

I didn't want to write it in my OP, because i didn't want to draw the attention to it, but these were also my thoughts regarding the snare and the vocal. Smile

It would make the track sound a little bit more "live" as well. Which i tried to achieve because i think that's the overall feel of the song to me. I could imagine a band having a big time while playing the song. Espacially the pianist and the singer. Smile

But i wasn't able to fix that to my satisfaction the ways i tried it. I didn't think about choosing another reverb. Thx for that tipp! I am definetly going to try that.

I used very little reverb overall. I am not confident enough with the "correct" use up to now, since it makes my mixes sound blurry and too roomy and up to now i wasn't really able to use reverb to place different parts "in the room" via different predelays. Something to work on. Wink

Thanx again for taking the time. Smile
