Its one long emotion. I found it easy to mix, maybe cause I know the mood, and what beautiful vocals and playin and harmonies.
I just played with eq, cuts and a little verb, ran the solo viola through a ua fairchild emulation, mastered with an extra dB for the chorus to make them fill more, and I think that was what I wanted.
If Imissed any obvious move please let me know.
I dubbed the background vocals and for some reason Logic wouldnt let me do the last part, that was actually what took an hour, the rest were done in like an hour and half.

Very good expression of a mood we dont wish noone to have but not all wishes come true.
I really liked it the first listen until like 0:46 got really nice stuff goin on keepin me interested. But then the chorus starts or w/e its called and i feel like the drums couldve been alot louder in that part. I really wanted to have some Dr Dre tight drums in there. So i think it would benefit alot from higher volume on the drums.

The bassline might also be high in volume, but thinking about it i recall a quote from someone but dont remember who but its some techno producer, it goes something like 'its hard to mix bass without a hihat' for which he meant something along the lines of its hard to judge bass levels without having a good level on the hihat. lol. But its still an enjoyable mix but i would try addin some drumlevel and maybe it would improve it Wink

Hey - good observation and good thoughts. thank you. I thought about lettin the drums get more juice in the chorus, but then again I thought of the mood and decided its not a mood where you feel anything much but sorrow, and I think that reflects in the lack of rhythm, also in the chorus. Actually theres a rhythmic FX track, that are pretty loud but only obvious some places. And I think it gives an unconscious helpinhand to the rhythm, thats what I thought. But if you miss more drum I will give it a second thought. Thank you for lettin me know !
Somthin like this ?
Its pretty tight now, but I would add something like a 16th hihat pattern with some open hihats thrown in there at like suitable positions. But still i think your mix is pretty tight. It would just add some groove if it had some hats. But i havent listened to the lyrics so i dunno if its suitable. Also ive been using my ears all day so they are getting kindof tired and untrustworthy at this point.

Do I know that one :-) Thank you, a hihat might do good ! I must admit Im not at all familiar in this genre with beats, but it does good with the stronger rhythm. Appreciate your input and your time ! Thx !!
Hey hope no hard feelings that I added some hats to it, I was just really interested in how it would sound if it had some more RnB kinda sound. And since I did try it a I thought I should just aswell uppload it...

Anyways... It is sortof falling outtof ssync at the end, hope you still enjoy it Big Grin
I get your idea and no I dont mind at all.
I see where your pointin at, and I´ll give it a go with fresh ears :-)
Thx for sharin your interestin idea. !
Love you're effects use on this. You get real depth by contrasting the dry drums, the super-distant violin, the wobbly BV effects, the sneaky slap-echo on the lead... a really nice atmosphere overall. Rich, but without sounding too comfortable. Personally I'm glad to hear the bass loud -- it took me bloody ages to program, after all... Smile However, it does maybe overcome the vocal at times, which probably isn't in the overall interests of the song.

Loved listening to this version, though -- thanks for posting! Lots of good ideas and atmosphere. As an aside, I don't think anyone has ever distorted the viola solo as I did on the preview mix, which is funny to me, because I never intended it to be heard without the distortion when I recorded it! Obviously I should have bounced down a distorted version, but somehow I felt that maybe someone else might get a better distortion tone than I did at the time I mixed this.

(Not sure about the hi-hats myself, PrincessCakeJ -- for me it loses the details of the synth sequence bits at the high end, which I think I prefer to hear more of. I get your idea, though, definitely, for a lot of more mainstream styles.)
Thx for the feedback. Glad you like the effects and soaces. I like the song : D
