Hey guys!

I'm Austin, a current student at Middle Tennessee State University studying audio production. I am enrolled in a mixing course, and one of our assignments specified that we had to post a mix to a public forum for critique and feedback. I'm much more comfortable as a tracking engineer than a mixing engineer, and honestly have fairly little prior experience in mixing, so I was a little anxious about posting my work here. But how else are we to improve as engineers? Hope to hear from some of you all soon, and thanks for listening!

Hey Austin.

The mix has a lot of things that need work on. Having said that, your overall understanding of the right frequencies needed to be emphasized is there.

Can you share your vision when mixing? how do you compress drums (if at all), bass/vocals etc?

Just a small tip for you, electric guitar with distortion are usually already compressed as is (due to the distortion in recording that is caused by compression in the first place)

Try working more on your balance, gain staging and perhaps the compression side of it.

Hope that helps! Feel free to check my different mixes here for reference of what I mean.
