Here's some more information about the project from J0K3R himself:
  • Tracks 01-05, 07-08, and 11: Directly from an (maxxed out) MPC 3000,clocked using SMPTE (i find it drifts just a tiny bit, which I like),either via hardware or direct into the DAW. The raw multitracks were tracked with no hardware or software effects, but for my mix, I processed these tracks as follows:
    • 01_Loop1: The intro loop that runs through the song, is highpassed fairly drastically on it's way into the DAW, in addition I levelled it with the LA2A, which lets the "pop" come through.
    • 02_Loop2: A HH pattern that I lowpassed slightly to give the sound of the older samplers with low clock rates.
    • 03_Kick: I processed the single kick with an 1176 in a parallel path, and eq'ed after the compressor to add a little bite to a fairly dull, low-heavy kick drum. A single kick at bar 65 had heavy reverb on it from a Lexicon 480L.
    • 04_HiHat: Another HH Pattern, this using single hits and created using the note-repeat and aftertouch on the pads.
    • 05_Claps: Dry Claps, a stacked pad-link of two different clap samples.
    • 07_SFX2: More Aliased percussion FX, created using the EMU E5000 bit-crusher and various stretching effects....some are clean, so this is a mixed-bag of effects sounds.
    • 08_SFX3: Effect sounds, aliased by misclocking the digital input/output path on the way into the MPC.
    • 11_Synth1: This 8 bar melodic loop was created by using the digital input of the MPC, with the clock rate on the source set to 48kHz (while the MPC 3000 is 44.1kHz) thereby creating a large amount of aliasing.

  • 06_SFX1 and 18_Synth8: The main effects for the breakdown, presented here as in the mix, which is to say mostly dry except for what is in the samples. These came from the much cleaner EMU E5000, so they are in stereo and fairly "hi-fi".

  • 09_Bass1: is the bass, sidechained in the mix, but dry here for you to experiment with. The insert path was Moog Source--->Demeter Tube DI--->Neve 5012 preamp--->LA2A with 5-7dB reduction on the "compress" setting. Emphasis trim all the way to 100% so it responds more to high frequencies. Creatd with the filter completely closed, two square waves an octave apart, and the filter envelope and keytrack to 100%. A simple ostinato pattern (stays in the tonic the entire mix), but when sidechained to give some movement turns into a neat backbeat to the track.

  • 10_Bass2, 15_Synth5, 16_Synth6, 17_Synth7: Sampled Strings from EMU E5000, Trance Pad from Virus Snow, Attack Pad from Jupiter 4, and Sidechained Bass from Prophet 8 running in Unison Mode....the sidechain is "cooked in", so you'll have to use it as-is or try and compress the track to bring out the downbeat.

  • 12_Synth2: Much the same as above, however the filter was closed and envelope amount was turned to 100%. This has no delay or other effects.

  • 13_Synth3: ARP Pro 1 synth into an Eventide H9 with tempo synced delays, LFO set by ear to modulate the filter with maximum keyboard tracking at the DAW Tempo....once I got it right I sampled the entire riff into an EMU E5000 Ultra and triggered it by MIDI.

  • 14_Synth4: Totally dry arpeggiated sequence, ran by the DAW via MIDI using CV/Gate conversion from Expert Sleepers ES-3 and an old MOTU interface dedicated to the task.

If you have any other general questions about this multitrack, just reply to this post.
If anyone is interested in the synths, gear, and processes used in this track I have a much more detailed tracksheet that gives a lot of information....it won't track with the tracks as presented, but is the original way the multitrack was supplied. Feel free to ask if you want to know!
