---EDIT:NEW MIX IN POST #4----

Pretty late for the competition, which is fine. I've been working through all the old multitracks on this site, which usually puts me 2 years behind the last discussion on a song lol. Wanted to do this one because it was current, tons of tracks and heavier.

Only really noticed two things to critique on these tracks. One being the kick having it's polarity flipped on certain hits. Very weird thing to happen. And the vocals being really dull/closed off sounding, but also really sibilant.

Once everything was comped and managed the rest of the tracks came together really easily.

Thanks for checking it out. Anyone else get goosebumps around the 12min area?
Hi Friggy ! I'm Florian, drummer of Perpetual Escape. Thank you for mixing our music Smile

Here's my critique of your mix.

Globally, it has a bit too much of low mids, in the 150-300 area I would say. A good mastering EQ could be enough to give some clarity to your mix.
In general, I think the rhythm guitars, at least the acoustic and the clean ones are a bit too loud. They take too much attention and mask the vocals. The last lead guitar is a bit thin and aggressive.

I really like how you made my drums sound. They are very balanced and not aggressive at all. Maybe they are compressed a tad too much. The kick and the bass work very well together.

Vocals are well treated, except in part 3 in which I can barely hear it (at 10 to 12 min approx).

So in general you're on the (very) good way. Some correction here and there and you'll get a very balanced mix. Keep it up Smile

Thanks for checking it out. Means a lot to get feedback on a mix, specially when its coming from one of the band members.

I'll have to check out this mix again, hopefully tonight. The last handful of mixes i've done I've been trying Duende channel strip on all the tracks and using almost no compression on drums. I can't remember if I was doing that on this mix so that will be fun to check out again.

I do remember letting the vocals stay lower in that section just cause I thought it sounded cool. All the parts building up, kind of just getting lost in the music. I'll keep her on top though. I actually can't remember if I did any automation on this song, so that alone will help take care of a lot of things.

Awesome song. I get some strong Dream Theater feelings in some sections, which is definitely cool.
Did a quick MixV2. Went in and did some rebalancing. There wasn't any automation in my last mix except for the effect I did on the strings at one point. So I went in and helped some sections move along.

Did some more eq adjustments, mainly cleaning up some lower mid stuff and a few higher resonances I could hear.

Also added a few things to the 2bus. MixV1 had a little bit of eq, comp then a limiter. It's now basically the same stuff but done in a different way. And I just bought Limiter 6 a few days ago so that was used for level. Such a fun plugin to work with.
Well Done Friggy,

Congratulations Big Grin
