Hey All,

Here's my mix of 'Still Flyin". I haven't been on here much recently, been a bit busy, but thought this one was a good one to work with. Some unique challenges there and I've listened to quite a few of the mixes uploaded. Feedback and comments welcome as always.

Cheers,
Mick

UPDATE: Version 2 uploaded
Cool mix, but don't you think that the rhythm guitars are like 6 db too loud? =) The screams are in the wrong place btw, they come in too late. and the kit playing at full intensity at 3:00 sounds kinda weird (especially the kick) when the rest of the band is on a very low intensity level Smile
hey mick

I'm listening in car stereo And I'm noticing 2 things

*kick has a muddy thump feel and is not helping with the overall feel in the mix.
*overheads sound like they were highpassed too much.. I just literally hear like 8k and above lol... Super thin sounding

P.s. I will give it another listen on my monitors.

Back again to hear on my monitors

I agree with blitzz

*Guitars are way too loud and for this reason you boosted the kick more than it needed to.
*Solo in the intro is very thin sounding and needs more body or perhaps the guitars being really loud is keeping me from hearing body in them.
*the vocals for the most part sound good here but it could change once you rebalance stuff.
*there is reverb in your kick .. or it sounds like it.. and it's causing a buildup of low end all together with the bass in some areas.

I will suggest you replace that kick for a typewriter kind. It will free up your mix a lot more
Turn down the guitars to match your drums.. just mute the kick before you do this or it will throw you off.

not a bad take.. but definitely needs more work on balancing. If you get the balance wrong everything else will be off as a consequence.. because you will be compressing and eq'ing to compensate for stuff that could be fixed in the balancing process.

keep it up and hope this helps.

Hi Dirk, thanks for the feedback, in particular thanks for picking up the screams. They were about 3 seconds out! LOL I'm working on version 2.0 as we speak. Cheers, Mick

Hello Shul, thanks for the detailed feedback, appreciate it! I'm currently working on version 2.0 with a slightly different approach. Will be uploading it soon. Cheers, Mick
Looks like you have started v2 and have some good info from the other 2
I'll stop back when you put up V2. Good start tho.

I like the song ,but it is a bitch to mix. I just put up v3 and it still not RT.

Thanks jerze, I just left a comment on your thread too.
Definitely way better balance now.

Only complaint I have is that top end on the cymbals. It's too bright for me. I'm listening at low volumes right now because I just finished Remixing Dead Enemies from Dark Ride and I still think it's too bright.

Last but not least, and this is a matter of taste.. but I would throw a reverb on that master buss to enhance the space better. It sounds somewhat too dry for me, but hey.. definitely a huge improvement over your last version.

Good job.

Thanks Shul, appreciate it. What are you monitoring with? I'm usually very sensitive to annoying cymbals and to me these don't sound overly harsh. Once again, it's a taste thing but I do like a bit of silky sizzle lol.
