Hi Chaps My first attempt at this What an awesome band and thanks for allowing us to download and mix
had a ball with this...
Hi

*The overall mix is lacking very importan mids, low mids, and lows. Are you by any chance mixing on cheap headphones? some headphones or even computer speakers are very midrange full.. this gives the impression that there is too much mids in your mix but is not. I'd suggest you invest in a good pair of studio headphones. Smile
*Your lead guitars are out of sync. You should check out the reference mix to map figure them out.. also it will help with the overall EQ of your mix. You should always compare with reference mixes if you are not familiar with the genre. Not to mention that you should always check other songs to make sure your mix in comparison is NOT TOO THIN, NOT TOO BRIGHT, NOT TOO BOOMY etc.
*Kick is not present at all.
*brightness on the mix is too much that is ear fatiguing.

check this song out and then check your mix to see what I mean about the mids and lows missing.

Untill you fix this overall EQ problem I can't give you more feedback because it's impossible to be more specific.
Hope this helps.. keep it up Smile

Here is the original reference track from this site (mp3 link is usually right next to the download link of any song here)

As for your Alesis and Sennheieser headphones... you have to get used to hearing other songs before you start mixing. Any song is fine.. you just have to adapt to your room and equipment.

Use that reference mix.. hear that first and right after hear yours and you will see what I'm talking about.

Keep it up Wink

Awesome that helped the guitars in that quite section really screwed up with the dump to reaper and totally missed that piano on the end back to work.

OK final mix see what you think.
Hello Paulnz.

First things first, you need to move the lead guitar tracks (all guitar tracks except 1 and 2 I think) and also the screaming vocals, as they are OUT OF TIME, I think they start two beats later than they should, this is something that you may notice knowing some music composing theory. Lead guitars should start at the same time as rhythm guitars.

Screaming vocals are a little more tricky, you will hear that they have an accent that repeats after every 4 beats, but it doesn´t start on a first beat, so it´s a little harder to get it, but that´s a wonderful opportunity for to work on your musical ear.

On the other side, mix has a couple problems, kick and bass are too on top, you can try cutting the higher frequencies on them, especially bass. rhythm guitars are super scooped, they really need more level and mids. On this style of music guitars are meant to be a wall of sound, always there.

Keep getting this mix better, vocals are quite fine, and that´s not easy to come out with.
