Okay, all you yahoos, here's my take on this nifty little tune. Wink

This was a good recording and I'll mention that having the trigger tracks helped me in gating that was required when I went to do a little creative editing.

So a few quick notes.

I usually mix DI and bass when I find a distorted bass like this since I feel it helps bring the tone and articulation back into balance so I didn't crush the bass, just made it feel good and full.

There were a few things that needed patching, like apparently hasty edits probably made during recording in the third section of the BVOX and a couple of abnormal volume changes in the lead vox that seem to be a result of a modulation that was applied to it so that had to be balanced out. One note here though... there's a "ride" mic that doesn't appear to actually have anything in it from the ride itself, as if that wasn't even used in the track. *shrug* I left it up a hair anyway for ambiance on the kit.

Otherwise, this is a pretty solid set of tracks. Only thing I had real problem with was getting the kick to sound the way I wanted it to Go figure. We even had two mics (I only used the D6) and the trigger (which I added a bit of to help with the click) and yet I still felt flummoxed for a time.

So the problem here wasn't really getting a mix, that was almost decent with just faders up. The challenge for me was to try to figure out how to squeeze every little drop out of it I could. The hard part for me was the verb/delays. Didn't quite get what I was going for but I still think it works but as has been pointed out, we're a fussy lot and never quite satisfied.

Anyway, here you go...
I like the drieness of the sound. And the fact that there’s not too much of hi-frequency content.

Balances feel correct, except I feel the kick is a bit too loud. It feels a separate from the rest of the band.

But overall, clearly better than mine - a comment from the one who has no idea how this genre should sound.
On another listen, I totally agree with you about the kick. Went back to my mix session and made some adjustments and it does make a difference.
Hey, your mix is really nice! The kick may be a little too loud, but it sounds fine. I like the sound you got out of the snare, good job.
Keep it up!
