Atrophy - trying to avoid my usual 'retro' mix style
#1
Not my usual type of music, but a great band performance. Pretty challenging to mix, though!

The guitars in the pre-chorus make me think of The Bends. Tried to add some variety throughout to the vocal sound. Quite hard to get the chorus vocal to fit nicely, but think I managed it (with the addition of some harmonies in the 2nd verse to sweeten it a bit). Not sure if I got too carried away with the vocal FX?

My mixes are usually quite 'retro' which I was trying to avoid on this one. Interested in anyone's thoughts on the outcome!

Cheers.

Hello,

Drums are great, very balanced. Guitars are rockin' ! Maybe a bit too much aggressive for my taste.
I'm not a fan of the vocals FX, but it's just a matter of taste.

Nice use of space, but electric piano could have been much more in front compared to keys which are too loud for me.

Otherwise, nice vocals, cool idea with the harmonies.

Cheers Mandubien. Yeah, I think you're right about the electric piano. Also the vocal FX could probably be made a bit more subtle (I don't usually do subtle, though...)
