What Is This Thing Called Love - Jesper Buhl - Mixed by Laurence Bush
#1
Here it is. I made sure to do it as quick as possible.

I've used a tape deck on here too that I just so happened to pick up on eBay for £2.20 - shipping was £10 too, so do get one if you're so inclined. The cassette I ised was a Maxell UR - pretty cheap but they sound really good.

There's probably a bit of clipping in the middle, I didn't get to the drum solo in the mix, so I didn't realise it was there - whoops. Oh well, the rest sounds quite nice.

See what you think! I welcome all feedback and comments.

UPDATE: After listening to a few of the other mixes, I'd say the bass is just a tad on the weak side. I also updated the title, and put it through some compression to raise the volume, as I thought it was a tad bit too soft too.

UPDATE 2: I reverted back to the original mix I uploaded quickly after.

very nice and tonally balanced mix, i like it.
what strikes me: overheads are tilted to the left so that the right ride is centered, relative to the set. that could come from the tape deck head, which should be demagnetized. but otherwise very nice mix - and good idea with the tape deck. I have also previously tried to "master" on vhs casettes... Smile

Good idea with the eBay tape machine. I might look out for one!

I disagree with you on the bass - I think it's spot on. It's actually lighter in my mix Smile

Thanks for the feedback. This is definitely one of the more successful mixes I've done. It does seem the drum kit is slightly tilted, and it's certainly very unusual.

Thanks very much! That's great to hear about the bass, I've had another listen and there's not much wrong with it to my fresh ears having not heard it for a while.

Hello there!

The mids in your overall mix feel a bit full. Really, other than that, I think this sounds fantastic.

Thank you for posting!

Yeah Lawrence, nice work, hard to pick a fault really, found there were some tricky aspects to get this to work and you've overcome them, sounds just like it should to me.
