Allen Stone - Naturally
#1
Hi you all!
It's my first post in this wonderful forum!
I mixed Naturally by Allen Stone, and i tried to give it a "round", "warm" and slightly overdriven sound.
I mixed using only headphones..
What do you think about it?
What should I improve?
Be ruthless (a little).
Thank you Big Grin

Greetings, (and welcome),

My thinking: this is a song with important, somber lyrics (text). Therefore voice should be in the foreground, and should sound relatively intimate (and not be made "big" or "powerful" with reverb for example).

So I like that you put the drums in the background. But I do not like that less important instruments (e.g. keys on the right) are more to the front than the vocals (which are pushed back).

I would put the vocals in the front, supporting instruments a bit to the back, and drum can stay at the back, or bring it forward al long as it does not bother the clarity of the others parts.

Welcome, and well done for putting your mix out there.
As said above, vocal vocal vocal. Reference some Stevie wonder, he has the same elements in his tracks, listen to how theses elements are placed in the mix and how loud is vocals are. watch the subs on the bass, and kick.
I Like the delay on guitar solo. also the tone of the vocal sounds nice.

All thoughts sent with encouragement.

Keep on keeping on.
