Mr. H,
I can't say I understand the vocal level. Care to explain your approach?

Hi, Mr. H and welcome

Nice mix.

Something wonky in the choruses IMHO, prolly the bass.
Not sure I'm a fan of the vocal delay in the verses.

Feel free to give others feedback as well!
Cheers! Smile

Sure, I'd be happy too!

That's why we're all here right?

What aspects of the vocals are you unclear about?

My reference track was 'Hound' By Local H, since it reminded me so much of that song. I liked the idea of retaining as much of the 'actual performance' as possible. I wasn't a fan of the popular pitch corrected sounding vocals I heard in several other mixes.

Just wanted something that sounded personable, and real.

As for the level, sure, it could come up / down a touch in certain places, however at the beginning especially, I liked the idea of keeping them softer, since he seemed to present them that way in his performance.

Hope that answers!

Thanks for asking!

Hi!

Well, for me this is a pretty solid mix. Nice tones and good balance. Good long term dynamics. I noticed the stereo image felt good too. Did you do any stereo enhancement or is it just well balanced? (I'm curious to know!). Vocal level is spot on for my taste, so I am also a bit confused by comments regarding that if I'm honest. Not a fan of the vocal delays, but no big deal really. Enjoyed the listen. Nice job.

Ok, I'm off to see if I can find that Hound track you mentioned now as I am not familar with it.

EDIT: Did you mean the Local H track 'Bound to the floor'?

Cheers!

Thank you for the feedback,

Very understandable points sir! The double sided sword. Listening to 10 versions of a mix for inspiration and reference; realizing you want the version you create to offer something unique.

The amount of quality mixes posted a challenge for sure

I guess here I sided for a flavor other than vanilla, since the majority of my mix was so pretty much so.

Lol, yes! That track. Loved that song since I heard it at 5.

Apologies for butchering the title.

Big fan of the production and mix (90's!)

Thanks for the kind words sir! As far as the imagining I spent approx half the time here sweeping the stereo field for guitars, drums, vocals until I settled. Plugins - eq,comp, rev, del

I will listen through your catalog

Hi,

Just popped in to say thanks for the pointer to the Local H track. Yeah it's a nice production, and a good reference for this I think.

Cheers!

- Snare is a bit dry
- Kick is a bit boxy
- Not sure where the synths went
- Make the vocal delay throws a bit quieter
- Bring up the verse vocals a tad

Good luck!
