Black out Betty

I tried to mix just the 'edited expert' version.

I struggled a lot with this one.

Hope someone 's going to tell me what went wrong.

Hi!
I've listened to your track. I definitely like the FX on vocals.
There are some things that I dislike and they mostly concerned with timbral and musical balance. The guitar is too prominent and harsh working more as distraction this is due to some harsh resonances in its attack in hi-mid range (listen carefully to that moment when guitar pick strike the strings and you could hear that metallic unpleasant quality in 3,7 - 4 kHz range, for example). You can tame this with some EQ and multiband compression or some transient processor. In my view, one of the quality of good mix and recording is that you can crank up the volume without that feeling of piercing you ear and while listening on low volume you still fell the power and hear every detail. Good mix stays pleasant at any volume (with reasonable limits of courseSmile.

It's difficult to judge low end in untreated room, but I would use high pass filter on bass guitar somewhere around 60-70 Hz with 18dB/oct slope and leave that very low range clear for kick drum.

Thanks for commenting Sergei.

I ll keep some of your tips for the future.

Do you suggest a high pass at 60-70 Hz on the bass as a "general" rule,
or just for this song?

Aren't there any notes sometimes playing down there?
