Any feedback (first mix)
#1
Just started getting into mixing and this is my first attempt. I wanted a strong/flowy sax sound, with a good supporting rhythm (the guitar).

Mainly focused on shaping the saxophone sound. Any feedback?

Hi PRIZM24,

Nice work for your first attempt. Balances are good. I can hear the work you've put into the sax sound, but I feel you may have over cooked it. For my ears it's just sounding too processed losing some of it's natural form. There's something strange and phasey about it's sound also, but I'm not too sure what it is.
I think you could also work some reverbs into the mix to add some natural space around the instruments to help create the illusion of the actual performance.

See how you go.

Dangerous is right on. You can't make a smoothe and flowey saxophone line from a recording that is dry and separated. You'll have to work more with what you have instead of against it.

Reverb may help smoothe off the edges of the sound you're hearing; maybe try a large-room impulse response reverb?

The balance is good, but the overall levels are a bit low.

Good work and welcome to mixing!
