More tips for mixing 'What Is This Thing Called Love' in the Patrons Podcast
#1
Featured in the June 2018 Cambridge-MT Patrons Podcast!

"It's a trip down memory lane this month, as I deliver mix tips on one of the multitrack library's founding projects: Jesper Buhl Trio's 'What Is This Thing Called Love', which I originally mixed for Sound On Sound magazine's 'Mix Rescue' column more than 10 years ago! Find out what I'd do differently with the mix today, as well as my suggestions for jtbStudio's mix of that tune. Plus, I answer another Patron's question: How might you work around high-frequency hearing loss for studio work?"

Hi, Mike.

In the podcast, you mentioned that you found the stick noise excessive. Curious if you've listened to Chick Corea's seminal album "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs." "Steps-What Was," for instance, has loads of stick noise. Of course, not every drummer is Roy Haynes, but I wanted to get your take on the stick noise in this recording versus the Jesper Buhl Trio track.

TIA,
Brad
