Very tight mix. It sounds to me your mix is too compressed killing all the dynamics of the song. I suspect it's the compression you applied on the mix buss, but, of course, I could be wrong. The second version is much better but you can still give it more top end. I'd take a look at the compression first tho. It sounds to me all the front end (the attack) are adequately chopped off. Perhaps you'd let them out by backing off on the attack of the compressor a bit. I would also check in the lo-mid region; most mixes fall apart because of this region. That's where a little bit of EVERYTHING lives . I think you can bring the vocal up a little. Right now the snare seems to be in control instead of the vocal. Good lord, I still remember the old days, when I first started out, I spent most of my nights wallowing in a pool of blood and tears with a compressor in one hand and the EQ on the other, not that I am an expert now, but I am glad I somewhat got over that big bump.
