My mix of 'Alone With You'
#1
I couldn't really make up my mind on which reference to use for this mix, so I used three; Smokey Robinson's 'Cruisin' had the vocal tone and effects I wanted to emulate. The Stylistics 'Betchya By Golly Wow' was also referred to, as was Tavares' 'She's Gone'. I put a reverb insert on the drum bus to emulate the latter tune, but I wasn't happy with it, even turned down to 5% wet and 95% dry. Instead, I put the reverb on a bus and sent only the snare and toms over to it, put left the effect fairly low, -30dB. The kick drum has such a low fundamental and lots of sub-bass that there's only a 1dB bump at 50Hz, and a 24dB rolloff at 30Hz to tame the sub-bass component. Let me know what you think?
