Radio edit, MFiT-type, a$$ wriggler.

The triangle desperately needs centre placement with width for obvious reasons. I pushed my luck with an off-centre right, for a laugh. There's one point in the mix where I think it justifies the spotlight and could come up more if centred.

A few things need finalising; eg the intro drums, finale bass bomb de-fattening and bigger impact, and I have some distortion from an alien invasion and encroaching full moon in a couple of places, etc, etc, so on and so forth.

v2 update with details here http://discussion.cambridge-mt.com/showt...3#pid70123

v3 update, http://www.discussion.cambridge-mt.com/s...4#pid70624 last one, I need a big holiday now. Will be sniffing around to hear what other's have made of this proj...

v2 mod's:

Put the triangle centre stage and frontal during the first bridge, preamble refers. I think it has a great way of pushing the groove and makes for a nice, intersting contrast. Also refined it's EQ and compression settings, it was still too bright and pokyoutalot in the first post for my liking.

Also muted the 2x vocal sfx tracks which started immediately in the first verse. I had cut their lead-in originally, but later felt them irrelevant in the presence of the synth bursts and delays which I'd actually turned up on their first downbeat for a touch more drama.

Not a mod, but it's worth mentioning:
The garbage event which occurs in the mix, is the Rhodes2 track. It was clipped in the supplied material. And there I was thinking it was a slip up in my processing Angel Perhaps I could have found an event that wasn't clipped and drop this in instead.

Loved it Monk! Great work. Nothing static here. Every sound has it's musical purpose. Lovely ebb and flow and use of contrasting effects. Well Done!Big Grin

Ta for the effort. Will reciprocate shortly Wink

I still wasn't happy with it, but have since pushed it around some more.

I reshaped the triangle to lose it's horrible ear busting digital resonance and harsh harmonics, especially up around the 10kHz area which I found disturbing, even in the update. I've messed around with this rather a lot since, mostly for my own inquisitiveness. Getting the sound stage in some sort of acceptable shape was quite a nightmare, given the early reflections (small room) in a lot of material. The material was also pretty heavy in upper mids and treble, all things which I made a priority in this record to try and balance.

I've checked this against an 80's-type pop presentation which I felt the vibe and character suggested, and the mastered curve was very similar. A pure fluke!

Many changes here, including more sidechaining on the synth to help drive the song's groove. Not quite 80's perhaps, but there you go Big Grin

Thank for feedback! I like v2 the most. For me it has the most pleasing tone and drums. Version 3 sounds a little mid bulgy, but it also has it's good moments with the pumping effects and some nice edits etc. Good mixing. Keep it up! ^_^

I understand what you mean. I had a need to roll off the treble quite substantially, so many of the tracks were brighter than hell and accumulatively brought some unpleasantness. At least I could turn up v3 without having to leave the building! I couldn't do this with v2 lol. That said, the vocal doesn't behave well, but there's some distortion from previous processing which gets exaggerated. You may find that with increased spl, the mix generally sounds better because the treble and bass come up due to the ear's non linearities. I'm hoping Big Grin

Thanks for listening.
