Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers: 'Rescue Me'

I like V3 the best. Energy and vibe is real cool. The guitar is a bit too loud overall in my opinion and fighting the lead vocal in spots. The tone is good especially in the solo. Might try side chaining a compressor or EQ off the Vox to pull some 2k area down in the guitar.

Also, might try pulling some 600 out of the lead vox.

Nice job.
Thanks for having a listen ,I agree and will try your ideas in the next version !

If I was to be really nit-picky (and I mean really nit-picky), I'd be inclined to look at 600Hz area in the lead vocal too as suggested by Rook. Other than that, it's two thumbs up.

Hi Robert ,I'm happy you like my mix it means a lot .
Will have a look at the 600hz are in next version !

We should post a poll on this one named "Who wants to shoot the guitar player?"

I have this image in my head from an old cartoon I think was in either an early Mix or RE/P magazine where there is a bullet hole in the control room glass and a keyboard player slumped over his keyboards and the engineering in the control room with a smoking gun in his hand. The caption reads "That's not what I meant when I said kill the keyboards!"

theDon...been a while since I've been around. Going to post my mix of this song soon, but wanted to take a listen to how others handled it.

Imho, your mix is pretty well done, but the guitar is simply too thin. I did some weird stuff to get a full guitar which match the tune, at least to my way of thinking, and from what I'm "hearing" around here, everyone seems to feel that pain! lol

Suggestion, and what I did:

Duplicated the guitar track. EQ'd one to focus mid range, the other deemphasizing it, and bringing out the excitement. Then I offset the two tracks by a smidgeon.

There are a million ways to approach mixing this song, but the initial engineering is excellent in my opinion, and yet challenging to work with, which is, after all, the fun in it!

Good job.

Well stated and in total agreement. Once I made peace with the guitar part things started to snap together. It is a tough get.
