Used stereo control plug-in per Don's recommendation. Definitely helps focus low frequency energy into the mid channel.

As Dave Pensado once said in one of his youtube vids "you gotta keep the mud in the middle" and this plug-in seems to do just that. Check it out if anyone is interested

your mix sounds great !
yes it is a magic free plugin thank you Alex Hilton .
I also use it to listen to what's going on in the side channels in pro mixes !

Hb, I like the big ambiance you got in this mix! I It works in your case because the contrast with your present LV and BGV creates a nice duality that let me position the band in a big room. My only observation is that I think the LV and BGV are too loud in comparison with your track. I always like to lower my volume at barely audible levels to correct those levels. Use this trick and you will see it work wonders specially in LV and snare levels! Good job!

Hey Javier, thanks for listening, 'preciate your comments.

yeah, reducing monitoring levels can be a really good tool for deciding final transient and vox levels ..... i often do so too...cant remember what i did with this mix but having listened to it again fort the first time in a few weeks i can hear what you mean re vox levels.

cheers, Simon

Simon,
I would like to echo javier's thoughts on the level between the ensemble and the vocals. I struggle with this balance too. The guitar, being printed with effects, makes the mix need to gravitate to the space it inhabits. I think you've done that well. Well enough to allow it and the Mando to shine against the vocals. Each instrument lends itself to the completed phrasing in this song which is driven by the lyric and vocal and is either finished or introduced by the guitar and/or mando. It is also tricky trying to match the poor mando to the power of the guitar. As a result the mando is often marginalized. However, I believe it is vital to the melodic phrasing of the song. Getting the technical aspects of this mix right is the tough part. Trying then to capture the emotional content is the real joy of this song.

Thanks for listening - 'preciate the detailed feedback. If i had to do the mix again i would probably work harder on the mandolin......at the time though what came out made sense to me on a instinctive level.....sometimes it works, sometimes not i guess Smile

cheers, Simon
