Rescue Me - HB Mix
#1
The thing i usually love about Telefunken sessions is the quality of the audio, so that after wading through spill and phase issues, you can usually end up with something really nice.

Sadly with this session, the lead vox is heavily distorted in parts and pretty hard to restore.

That said, its a great live performance from a great band of a great song so still a pleasure to mix Big Grin

I enjoyed this one Simon, Very Nice.Big Grin
I also like the Telefunken sessions. Great performance and recordings. There is always that lovely cohesive effect when the band performs live in the one room. Bringing that captured energy out in the mix in a positive way is half the battle.

Well Done.

Hey Dave - thanks for listening. Glad U enjoyed it.

I know what you mean about cohesion. There was a point when i though i'd never get a decent balance and then all of a sudden, one little move brings it home and you get all the benefit of a live session that you've just spent hours wrestling with.

cheers

Thanks for your feedback! Something about the bass feels a bit off? Very nice open sound, and the overall sound works nice even though you almost omitted the mandolin. Good work! ^_^

Thanks Kapu,

yeah mandolin ended up low for a few reasons.....

1. balancing HF on RHS with Hat HF from LHS, so i set levels to compliment hat.
2. couldn't really find an EQ/Fx solution that sounded pleasing at a higher level without it becoming fatiguing and/or overbalancing RHS HF
3. the song for me was rhythm section, guitar and vox - mandolin felt like ear candy rather than a focal instrument.

cheers, Simon

p.s. re bass - i will investigate

New version, 1.1

1. Dyn EQ on bass and EQ on drum bus to tighten and re-balance low end
2. Dyn EQ on lead vox ~ 9K & 3K to take out a bit of harshness

Hey Simon listening to your latest version ,sounds great ,I can hear too much loose deep bass and kick in the sides taking away some punch ,not sure if this is what Kapu was also hearing !

I love this free plugin which helps keep the Mid's and sides in check especially on headphones !

Hey Don, Thx for listening.

re low end, i did try and control originally using m/s EQ and hp filters but i think that there's so much low end info from all the spill i didn't manage to mop it all up from the sides.

Nice heads up re plug-in, seems like it could be just the ticket Big Grin. I was thinking recently about picking up a waves plug-in that seems similar but this one being free i'd be mad not to have a crack. thx for that.

cheers, Simon

New version, 1.1b, reduce low end in side channels.

Used stereo control plug-in per Don's recommendation. Definitely helps focus low frequency energy into the mid channel.

As Dave Pensado once said in one of his youtube vids "you gotta keep the mud in the middle" and this plug-in seems to do just that. Check it out if anyone is interested
