Hey Lethan, thanks for listening. I'll check out the bass next time I dive in. Cheers.

new version, 1.5.

1. Added dynamic eq for slight taming of vocal harshness. Still some there, after all it is an alt rock/punk song.
2. Final balance adjustments

Thx for all your input. Don't think I'll be making any more changes. Time to move on.

Is your room on the reverberant side, by any chance? I'll tell you why I asked that question when and if you get the chance to reply Wink

Still feeling some harshness here. And I think there's some benefit in seeking more depth from the dynamics. They sound a bit congested to me, if I can be honest? Wondering if this is in some way contributing to the harshness in the vocals, which might imply the tracking isn't the source of the compression. Now I'm questioning myself about how much of the mix I'm hearing, or whether it's the master processing that's upsetting my abilities to assess the mix itself?

Would appreciate some clarity on those points, if poss'

I have no idea. What I can tell you is that it is very small with no treatment. And being as far from ideal as one can get, my strategy to date to deal with it is to set up my near-fields (Focal cms40) on IsoAcoustic stands so that tweeters are at ear level. My listening position is the apex of a 65 cm equilateral triangle formed with my monitors (calibrated using pink noise, slow response and C-weighting). I then mix at a low level (60-65 dBSPL) using my HD600 as an alternative sound source. I generally keep mixing until i'm happy with both phones and monitors

I'm not sure if there is a question in here that you'd like me to answer or whether its rhetorical. Let me know and I'll be happy to answer

Mix 1.Loving the smooth vocal sound; ambient. Guitars sounding good though little to piercing in the 2-3 k range for me. nice toms and kick. Maybe the bass or kick is a bit thin.
Revised mix. vocals a little more up front (maybe I'm imagining it). Sounding clearer and more punchy in the low end. NiceSmile

Nice mix. If I could make a suggestion, I would add some low mids back into the mix. To my ear, the highpass filtering was pretty aggressive. I like the vocals upfront. I think this kind of pop rock needs to emphasize the singer. Overally, very well balanced!
