Own way to boogie, Neve desk mix
#1
I'm lucky enough to have access to a lovely Neve mixing desk. So I mixed this in 2-3 hours, mostly in the box and used the desk for analog summing/some EQs.

I tried to go for a very live feel. With a slightly more thuddy kick, as well as a tape slap on the vocals, as I felt that a reverb was a bit too impersonal and polished. I gave the snare a very forward position in the mix and bussed out the Double bass and did a lot of processing to bring out that crunchy finger sound.

Let me know what you think, and places that I could improve on.

I wish I had a Neve summer.

So all of your individual tracks sound excellent but what I am missing is cohesiveness. The ensemble mix doesn't seem to match the energy of the lead vocal and as a result kind of leaves everything in the lurch. I feel it is less a question of volume but of the ensemble not being electric enough to meet with her energy.
