Promises & Lies mix by heavymetalmixer
#1
"By heavymetalmixer" because that's my "internet name", and I still don't know how to change my account name on this forum.

Now to start, I'm still a student and started with audio mixing by myself with this multitrack, so I've been trying to apply only the basics I know (level balance, EQ, compression, distortion, reverb and panning) and to have a good dynamic range.

This is not exactly a final mix but a premix so I can constantly improve it: https://mega.nz/#!b8kAkDrZ!wDOinRO_ES94s...hIeGGE66Dk

Any critics or suggestions to improve the mix?

Listening to the second mix. I like the snare sound quite a bit, but it does get a bit lost behind all those guitars. The kick stays there pretty well though. I also rather like the bass, but maybe it is a bit too "tubby". I dunno maybe that is just me. Sounds good. Personally, I would have rather liked to hear the track be a bit wider. You've certainly got the guitars to do it. The guitars do have some nice bite though. I also like the vocal. Firm and cemented and not overly harsh. Another thing with the toms. Why are they all right up the center? From a text book point I'd say this is reasonably solid. It has a good general balance I feel, but it does kind of lack in excitement. Also, perhaps intentionally, but this sounds pretty small from a sense of space. I mean each instrument sits where you want, but they really don't sound like they're part of a bigger whole.

At least my thoughts. Good stuff.
