Maurizio Pagnutti Sextet - All The Gin Is Gone - Lucsmix
#1
Hi guys,

Jazz is a bit of my thing.

Hope you like my mix, your comment is welcome.

Cheers,
Luc

(Unfortunately there is some cymbal stand or bass click, cant get rid of it without compromising the mix, so left the click as is)

Update:
Spoke to Stefano Amerio and created my V2 from scrap. Listened carefully to Stefano's comments and agree V1 is crap, way too much.
Hope you like my V2 better. Stefano thank you for your great advise.
What a wonderfull recorded tracks to work with Wink

Cheers,
Luc

An enjoyable listen with headphones on Luc. I like the space and stage you have set up and managed. A nice and big full sound with controlled spread.

Well Done.

Nice full and bright mix. Lots of pleasant reverb giving it a very almost "live" kind of sound! Nice! Only thing I would like is the piano a bit more up front or a db or two louder overall. Were'n't these tracks recorded great????

Hi Tom,

Thank you so much.
Yes you are right, something did bother me about my V1 mix too, contacted Stefano and redo my mix from scrap.
I am happy with V2 Big Grin

Cheers,
Luc

Very nice on mix 2 Luc. I really like the cymbals. Care to share any tricks there?

Hi Mix, thanks Big Grin

What I did (and what I often do with Jazz mixes)
-Pan the OH stereo image fairly wide
-Hard (24dB/oct) highpass filter the stereo image, hard filter away all F lower then aprox. 300Hz
-Put the HH fairly at the right (+/-25%) to complete the natural stereo image if you would be standing in front of a drumkit.
-If necessary highpass the HH too.
-Use an amount of exciter (aphex aural) on your OH stereo image
-Use an amount of exciter (if necessary) on the HH (for a sparkling HH chick)
-DON'T try to curb (compress) any dynamics of the drumkit in general, while in Jazz dynamics is too delicate, so about compressing keep it as clean as possible.

So thats what i mostly do Smile
