Recording Notes
#1
In 1975 Streetnoise recorded library projects ‘Revelations’ and ‘You Are The One’ in a professional studio. These days they record in a personal project studio. Using a project studio plus having limited time together (they haven’t played together in over three years) has influenced how they record. For this song the leader/arranger made a demo with the live vibro-guitar track and scratch tracks for vocal, slide, MIDI drums, MIDI bass and MIDI piano. One by one the scratch parts were replaced with live performances. This is typical for their recording work flow. For this song the four remaining members were joined by guest musicians on bass and piano. Here's the order of recording:

1. The drums were recorded first. A click track was added to the demo for this session only. You have the third of three full takes.
2. The slide was recorded direct in three sections. The track you have is made up of the last take from each of the sections.
3. The bass was recorded direct in three full takes plus four punch-ins. You have the first full take plus a punch-in during the piano solo.
4. A Yamaha P-105 keyboard was recorded direct in one accompaniment take followed by numerous solo takes.
5. The vocal was recorded with a Rode NT1-A in two sections. The track you have is the last take from each section plus a punch-in on the third verse.

For their mix the original demo timing was assumed to be correct. A few timing adjustments were made to the drums and bass but a lot were made to the piano solo. The ride cymbal during the piano solo was a MIDI addition while mixing.
