it's in these times

from the beginning of the mix, it was very hard to find the balance between instruments,
and also the tone of the vocal.
the song was very unfamiliar to work with,
but, i've learnt so much from this song -
did some automation with buss compressor and so on, that i haven't done before.
the instrumentation was very full,
and because it was recorded so well, it was fun to mix.

please tell me if there is something needs to be fixed,
any comments are welcome.
thank you for sharing this song, bigsby.

I like how you have kept the natural tone of the instruments , vocals and balance.
listening switching between different monitors and cans, I'm wondering if the vocals would sit a touch better if slightly dipped around 200hz and a touch of the honkyness around 1,5k eqed of maybe not.
Just some thoughts while listening.

here's the mix that i've fixed.

for vocal, some cuts around 200, 500, 1.7k, boosts at 6k,
but it wasn't enough, then i changed the settings of my eq
which is equilibrium, from iir to fir and honkyness has gone.
but then for somewhat reason, sibilants were popping out, so i've cut 11k, 8k
with eq, and also with dynamic eq.
i did gain riding on vocal, which wasn't done in previous version.
boosted 3k on backing vocals,
used parallel compression on vocal bus.

i've put eq on the mix bus, similar to what i've done on vocal but just subtle amount.
and put one more compressor and it glued things up nicely.

reverb automation on bells, and little changes here and there.

i think it's amazing! - this place is so constructive.
thanks for your help thedon.

Really liked what you did here, the instrument separation is very nice and you can hear a lot of the subtle things they are doing, especially on the guitars! Lead vocals sound awesome too! Backing vocals get kind of lost, but I'm sure you'd miss them if you'd mute them, they are there for sure.

thanks whoosh.
listening back to the first version, backing vocals are more up front.
i lowered it while mixing it again because it felt like triggering the bus compressor,
and raised the threshold of the limiter, so it's gone further away.
so i think that's the result of over-mixing, maybe.
or not having a break for long time.

and here's third one.

Really nice a bit more mid low warmth here I think would improve it. Maybe even just on the master
