Official Mix - FAQ, comments, etc... ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW SONG!
#1
Hi guys and gals,

I'm happy to present to you one of the first demo songs of my own band LEAD Inc. from the EP Tacoma Narrows.
We recorded it with the best possibilities we could come up with in our rehearsal room; it has been recorded, mixed and mastered there by our guitarist Henrik who studied sound engineering at the SAE Hamburg institute.

One thing to start with: It's absolutely okay to change the song as you like. We're waiting for the first dubstep remix.
Plus, if you want to post it in your portfolio, soundcloud profile or even youtube, go for it! Just be sure to drop a link to our homepage Smile

Microphones:

Kick In: Sennheiser E901
Kick Out: Sennheiser E602
Snare Top: Shure sm57
Snare Bottom: Sennheiser E604
Tom 1-3: Sennheiser E604
HiHat: superlux hi-10
Oh: Akg c451b
Room: Behringer ECM8000

Vocals: Rode NT1-A
Guit: Shure sm57 / Sennheiser E906 in front of a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 100W and a Mesa Boogie 2x12" cab
Bass: DI / Darkglass B7K / Sennheiser e602 in front of Warwick Pro Fet 500W amp and Ampeg SVT 8x10" cab

Gear:

Bass: Warwick Corvette 6 string with Humbuckers

Guitar: Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus with active EMG pickups

Drumkit:
Mapex VX special (22" kick, 10", 12" and 14" toms with ambassador clear heads),
Tama Metalworks Anniversary 13" snare, Ambassador Coated top head,
14" and 18" Paiste Alpha China,
16" Sabian AAX X-Plosion Crash,
18" Paiste Alpha Rock Crash,
20" Sabian B8 Ride,
8" Masterworks Resonant Bell,
10" Sabian B8 Splash (everted, so it's like a small china splash)
I used an Iron Cobra Power Glide with wooden beaters to get the maximum smack out of my kick without killing the tone (with metal plates for example).

All signals went through a Mackie 8 Bus Series 32/8/2 LNKD and two 16-channel Apollo Firewire interfaces or an Focusrite ISA ONE analogue single channel microphone preamp.

DAW: ProTools 10 on Mac OSX Yosemite.
Plugins by Waves and Apollo UAD.
Mixed mainly on AKG K701 open reference headphones and Adam A7X studio reference monitors.

The tracks have been pre-edited, pre-EQ'd and the vocals were slightly pitch corrected. We'll get totally raw tracks for you guys the next time!

Please feel free to add or cut anything you like. We'd be super happy about remixes that fit in other genres, own edits with other tracks or just a tight mix. Go! Smile
I'll try to comment each one.

Cheers,
Till

Oh, I forgot something.
The original mix was made by our guitarist.

I participated in a speed mixing challenge. This is my own mix, worked about three hours on it.
Apart from doing a few more pitch corrections, especially on the backing vocals, I added some presence on guitars and vocals, gave the bass guitar some good fuzz and mixed the snare as I like having it. Also, the kick's got a little more "flap", a dry attack I love having on drums. The guitars are a bit more scooped, too. Still, the mix sounds pretty raw and I could repeat some editing to cut out noise and stuff.

This one was mixed on Logic Pro X with Waves plugins, mixed with Audio Technica ATH-M50x.

Cheers!

Hi - I was wondering - If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to post a copy of the lyrics of this track?

BTW, would I be right guessing your forum name is a reference to Moses Schneider's infamous "Wurst Mic" technique?

Hey sure, here we go:

---
Verse 1:
One night in balance, the earth at peace
the prophets spread word about bitter cold
a small subtle turn in the lone ocean's breeze
for maids, men and kingdoms to break and turn old
---
Chorus:
roll the dice, little god
change the order for entropy
for all the rules to derange and crumble
for poor men to rise and kings to stumble
---
Verse 2:
The tumorous hive mind gasping for grounds
and thankful sheep for joining the sounds
blind for autonomy so blind for deceit,
with a roll of the dice they could break through the bounds
---
Chorus
---
Bridge:
The quake's over
the dust came down
a dull night ends
for a day to come

open up his tired eyes
the dead woke up to the sun shining twice
---
Chorus.
---

My nickname's not really a reference to anything. It once was a plump masturbation metaphor, haha

Great song and great recording. I'm going to enjoy mixing this. It would have been nice not to fight your EQ choices, but on the other hand, it was pretty cool to load these tracks into my DAW, hit play and hear a real song instead of a bunch of noise.

With all the tempo and time signature changes in this song I have problems to get the right tempo in my DAW. Can you provide a tempo track with all the information?

Difficult since we just set the metronome to quarters at the given tempo and just went along with it, sorry
