Dad's NOT Glad (about spitting on his grave)
#1
I was immediately intrigued by the lilt of this song. Raw and basic and well recorded for the genre. I called to me to keep as much of the dynamics as I could while getting presence and balance without harshness and muffled vocals. I think I got most of the way there. I did very little in the way of environmentals. In fact, there is only one reverb on a send and added to the overheads, the guitar and the vocals. I think it ties it together well while retaining the original vibe of the recording space. I also widened the lead guitar to provide a better seat for the vocals.

Be careful, the volume is very hot on this master.

Hi Mix,

Here you have created something special.
I LOVE the vocals, great job on eq, really.
Overall balance = very very ok.
Guitars high end a itsy pitsy less then your mix beats them all (just my personal taste)
However please note that the guitar comment as said, is just based on my personal taste, so by definition not relevant to your overall mix job.

great job, a joy to listen to.

Cheers,
Luc

Luc,
Thanks for your wonderful comment. I would tend to agree with you on the sparkle of the guitar being a bit too bright. I did like the sound of the strings up there so I went with it and it cuts better at lower listening levels. I did question that decision so your ears are spot on.
I am including another mix of this with some dynamic growth into the choruses as musically there was a lack of energy building to there which was apparent in the song but not so much in the first mix.
