Here is my go at this song.
Decided to cut accoustic at around 180hz.
Maybe too much reverb!

Hiya TheDon

Off to a good start!
If I may make a couple of observations;
The volume balance between acoustic and vocals at the start is perfect, but things start going a little haywire when the rest of the band comes in.
The bass is rather too loud in the mix and as a result the lead vocal really drops in level compared to the instrument backing when it is present, especially after the first chorus when the backing vocals have also appeared eg; "and if you tell me that you're keeping secrets" at 1:39 is very low.
(I do like that you have raised the backing vocals up in the mix and made them a feature instead of playing just a supporting role)

Try lowering the level of the bass a bit (you might have to readjust the relative levels of the rest of the band as the balance may be thrown by the change - sorry!) and let the lead vocals come through a little more prominently.

Hiya mate.
Ah yes. The vocals aren't getting swamped anymore - lovely!
Maybe the kick and stick can come up a little bit, but that's just a personal preference to hear them a little more. I think you have created a very nice 'folk' balance to your mix. Well done.

BTW, passed by your user profile to locate this thread again - good to find another Aussie hanging around the site! Smile

G'day Dags !

Thanks for having another listen and feedback.

I re mixed this on 5c Horror tones, the stick sounds quite loud on them.
Having another listen on larger monitors and the kick and stick are a little low.

Thanks.
Don

I listend the version 2.
Overall balances are good.

The level of the drums is low, but does it matter? Maybe not. Now the song is more like an enhanced trubadour version, and it suits fine the mood of song.

Very short ambience reverb could do a nice effect to vocals. No one would hear that as reverb, but it might glue the words together better.

Weird bass sound. I like it.

Now all your instruments have very clear and bright sound. Nothing wrong with the sounds as such, but you might do some experiments: how about testing duller sound with, for example, guitar in the middle. That would give more room to the effect of other bright instruments. That kind of trick could make the mix more dimensional.

Nice mix overall, i like vocals especially.Though i found the kick a bit thin and powerless, if you give it more power i think the song can go one step further Wink
