Nervbloc -Slapback Mixy
#1
Hi out there,

Here is my mix, tried to add little bit 'Air' (French band) style into this song.

Hope you like it, well I like your comments for sure.

Cheers,
Luc

Hi Luc!

I like that air you mentioned, nice job, your mix is very clean. Nice job with left-right panned hi-hat, haven't thought about it!

What I think you could make better is enhancing bass line a bit, it is the main subject in this song, so it should be more readable.
Also when it hits the chorus it feels a bit disappointing (about 1:06), there's nice tension already, so try to make it louder and bigger.
Unfortunetaly I had the same trouble, so I can't say how to do that exactly...

All in all, very nice job!

Cheers man

Hi Donio,

Thanks man, your comment makes sense! Smile After all its the bass who has to carry the chorus, no question about it.

So I have tried to enhance the bass in the chorus (and remixed itsy pitsy tiny other things), while not loosing the "Air" ambiance thing.

I think the second mix (enhanced version) is more complete now, thanks to learning from your comment, I am very satisfied about this second mix.

Thanks again and cheers Big Grin

Hey!

now realized that my song is up Smile it's fun to hear different approaches to the tune!

The sub is pumping here in my sysem, so thats great!

nontheless, some reverb sounds have too much "weight" maybe arround 300-500 hz, as well the amount might bee a bit too much.
as well the main drums dont have enough power, I think its because of high pass on the kick.

Anyway, thanks for mixing my track, feel free to hear the original here: https://soundcloud.com/nervbloc/slapback

Hey Luc, I've got to admit that this isn't the sort of music I would listen to whist having a cold beer. But always enjoy listening to your mixes and the "flair" that you seem to put on them. I'm always guaranteed something a bit different. It's obvious that you enjoy what you do. Well Done!

Hi Yoni how are youSmile,

Thank you for your comments, really appreciate it.

You are right concerning the main drumtrack, it was too light. In fact I rearranged the mix fairly well in V3, lucky number 3...
In the first two versions I didnt feel the need to duck bassline or melodyline, in V3 however "the shells fell off my eyes" hahaha, ducked the bass and melody chaining to a low pass filtering on of the submix of the 2 main drum tracks. About the bassdrum of the maintrack: I don't use low out filter on bd tracks, but aphex aureal exciter. However the complete drum track is not to separate into bd/sn/hh tracks offcourse I let the complete track through the aureal exciter, (just like many other tracks, like the rhodes track for instance)

Sorry for sitting on the producer's seat, I had the idea that some "Air" (the band) influences fitted very well in your song. Its just the way I feel about it SORRY hahahaha.

PLease let me know if you like or dislike V3, will do my best.

Cheers,
Laterz

Luc

Hi Danger, I feel very honored by your kind words about my mixes, my cheeks are red from blushing now hahaha.
I sure enjoy what I do, especially while however I'm some time in music (more then 40 years actively) I just started mixing (with Protools) as an amateur,1,5 year ago. And I LOVE it, really. In daily life I run my own business, however I do have my bachelor degree in electronics, energy technology and even have been flight instructor, I am NOT a sound engineer, but I think I am running fast to become one hahahaha.

Thanks again,

cheers,
Luc
