My mix

As the others have already posted, this is a very nice, clean mix. You've got a good instinct for balance in general, I think, and I didn't find myself thinking "Oh, I wish i could hear that better" about anything, which is always a bit of a juggling act. The sounds all seem good and clear as well, and I loved the little delay spin on "No poetry..." -- wish I'd thought of that myself! Not as convinced by the 'radio vocal' on the final pre-chorus, though. It seems a bit too small, and then the chorus vocal seems too big by comparison, where I'd not felt that up until that point.

In general, though, my main feeling about what you've done is that it's excellent on its own terms... but it nonetheless doesn't seem like quite the right approach for this music. You've created something beautiful, but rather conservative, whereas this music feels like it should rejoice in its rough edges more, and take more risks. To some extent the clues to this are in the multitrack itself -- the strings are deliberately thin and reedy-sounding; the SFX are deliberately disconcerting, full of burbles, chain noises, and random dissonances; the octave-doubling in the choruses is deliberately rather an odd and exposed vocal texture; the drums are claustrophobic; the bass twists like an eel. Clearly, every mix engineer is completely entitled to developing their own vision for any multitrack, but it just feels to me as if you're fighting the inherent nature of the raw materials maybe a little too much.

Thanks for posting, though -- whatever my own emotional reactions, I always love hearing a new take on this material!

I understand your point of view and I'll keep it serious consideration in the next mixes of this kind of music that I will have to deal with.
I got carried away by my emotions and vision of the mix in my head.
I soon realized that in this work you never stop learning!
