Galias - Horizon (Mix)
#3
Hi Orbital1998,

Firstly thanks for your kind words!

I'll try and answer your questions as best I can without it being a massive essay...

I import reference tracks into the session and A/B them against the track I'm working on. With a track like this one I'm comparing the low end and lead instrument/vocal level to get them to compete with a "commercial standard". Obviously you can compare a million different things but don't get to caught up with this as you've still got to put your stamp on your track.

With the keys I did some parallel compression with an 1176 (blue) on the all-setting. This always helps to push stuff right to the front of a mix, but be careful not to blend in too much of the crushed sound otherwise you'll lose all of the dynamics!

In regards to levels just get a balance of the faders before you do anything else! The worst thing you can do is reach for a plugin before you've even got a good fader balance between the tracks you are working with. This will help you make much better mixing decisions as you go on to apply your EQ, compression, effects etc

I hope those responses help in some way.

If you want me to deep dive into this session or if you want me send you the chains for anything specific let me know and I'll happily share! Big Grin

Thanks,
Alex Jeffries Producer
