Quick update (post submission): After a little break, I've started tweaking on this mix again. The biggest problem with my submission is lack of low end definition and I've definitely fixed that. I've added a good dose of 800-900 Hz to the bass and now the string plucking has a woody sound that really helps define the bass notes. I also added compression with a really slow attack and high ratio on the bass which gives it even more impact. I've also backed off the 100 Hz area on the kick and found the reverb I had on the drum kit was muddying up the kick, so I rolled that off around 150-200. Now the mix has real impact and I'm excited to finish it and post it when I'm done.
