Sugar - Faith
#3
Hi Thomas, what you use for monitoring, headphones, speakers? A good way to start is to use a reference song, so your ears can adapt to that monitoring system. I hear some phase cancellation on guitars. Reamping or distorting the already amped guitars can choke them at some point, try using the DI's Guitars if you want a new tonality. To identify what is causing the phase cancellation, mute all guitars, and one by one un-mute them, bypass the effects and hear if one of then is causing the problem. A good way to avoid over compression, is to first balance the mix without any EQ or compression, you can start balancing the bass and the guitars, and then the drums and vocals when your happy with the results, you can EQ and compress in context of that. Volume automations after effects will be your best ally. And last, for limiting, try to start with the most intensive part of the song, like the chorus, because, using a verse for reference, when the chorus enters, the mix will choke badly
