Voi Che Sapete - Olli H
#6
Good mix Olli, the ambiance is really fitting for this track! Big Grin The only thing I can say is that even though you're not doing much compression, it's really noticeable and does tend to add a harshness to the sound. What are you using in the way of compression in your mix, to me it sounds like an 1176 or a fairly aggressive VCA style compressor which maybe the culprit of the harshness in the mix. I had a similar problem when I was mastering my mix of All the Gin is Gone and ended up scrapping the overall buss compressor on that mix and using mild saturation and tape emulations as my dynamic control.

At the end of the day, automating the level of the piano by hand would yield a smoother sounding result overall.

Cheers, and hope this helps,
Dcp
Mixing is way more art and soul than science. We don’t really know what we’re doing. We do it because we love music! It’s the love of music first. Eddie Kramer
