So I realized that part of my problem here is that the background guitar sounds are too high. That means that there's not enough room for the synth tones. However, since that change would almost entail a full remix (because once I have room for them I still have to make them fit and the change will also unbalance other things), I'll let that wait and just learn the lesson instead.
