Too Bright mix from a newbie

I do almost exactly the same thing... I don't worry about loudness at all until mastering... That's why I recommended he turn his monitors up. This is great discussion because a lot of people new to the mixing game fall into the headroom-loudness trap. A couple years ago when I was first starting out I ran into this problem with "much too much." Couldn't keep it from clipping without using a wild lot of compression, till someone told me to try turning my monitors up :p
