Pedaling Prince Mix: Rod Alexander - Tears in the Rain
#3
Very good work, very smooth sound and the minimal use of compression suits this style of music very well. I agree with bmullen about the kick/bass separation... I can feel the sub from the kick, but I can't actively hear it's contribution, but the separation of guitars is very admirable, especially given the very wet reverbs in a few places of the song. The acoustic (steel string) guitars are maybe a little toppy in a few places, very slightly taking away some of the high end definition from the electric guitars, but it still sounds very good.

The only other thing that comes to mind to me is that there seems to be a lot of reverb (and reverbs of different types) applied to individual instruments, maybe as inserts(?) but not a whole lot of space surrounding the mix as a whole. Perfectly valid artistic decision, nice and smooth, but maybe some slightly higher pre-delays on the individual reverbs could bring them forward a bit, and some shorter pre-delays on the drums/steel strings for blend. Matter of personal taste though... I like to use reverb as an instrument of itself Big Grin.

Great work, put this one in the portfolio.
I'm grateful for comments and suggestions. Thank you for listening!
