Pedaling Prince Mix: Dry Clean Only - Iron Sheik
#1
Been a while since I've been on here; honestly haven't had the time. This song, however, has to be the most happy, energetic song I've ever mixed. It literally made me so happy when I heard my first rough mix that it brought tears to my eyes. So once I refined the mix I just wanted to share it with everyone.

As always, comments (good, bad and ugly) are welcome. Smile

I've personally found the greatest technical struggle for mixing this to be evening out the lead vocal's level without sporadically messing up the tone, how about you? Seems to require quite a bit of pre-compression gain riding and perhaps a little EQ automation to keep the tone and level acceptably even throughout the song.

Apart from that, it's fun mixing trashy garage-rock recordings like this, since there's so much room for personal taste and expression when a high fidelity mix isn't necessarily the best approach. It's great that you connected with the song the way you did... that's an obvious indicator you're focusing on what mixing is really all about: the soul of the music.
