Here's my take on Wesley Morgan's beautiful song.
I tried to give it a spacious ambiance while keeping the intimacy of the song. My processing was quite straightforward (ITB / Studio One) :
- EQ + light comp on bass bus, guitar bus, pedal steel and vocal
- Slight deessing on the vocal
- Small hall reverb as a send on each track, in different proportions
Only the accordion had a more fancy processing :
- standard EQ / comp
- made the track stereo and added a Roland Dimension-D emulation (kind of chorus, but more subtle detuning) to widen it
- added a fairchild 670-style compressor with no gain reduction but in M/S mode, just to lower the mid and keep the accordion on the sides, in a way to make room for the vocal in the center.
That's it ! Let me know how it sounds to your ears.
Happy listening,
Erick
