Shut Up And Play - Rook Mix - Rook - 22-10-2017

Playing around with Mixbus 32c. I probably squeezed all the life out of this one, but uploading anyway.

Nice fresh sound! I like the drums overall (energy and sonics), although the snare could be a bit "boxy". The organ is hard to hear and could maybe play a bigger part overall. Distortion maybe your friend here. Otherwise, great work.

Thanks Dave. I agree the snare and organ needed work. Posted an updated mix. Appreciate your feedback.

Hi Rook, I think your mix is cool - the only thing i'd suggest is spreading the rhythm (or lead) guitar to give some width as it's pretty narrow in the stereo, which is why you might have struggled to fit those parts together frequency wise.

Great suggestion and I agree. Thanks

Rook,
The only thing which grabs me the wrong way with your mix is the seeming inversion of the overheads on the drums and the rest of the kit. The cymbals are flying at me while the rest of the kit is in a very good place. Maybe too much squeezing, as you said. Back off the drum buss compression and re-balance the cymbals?

Mixinthecloud

Thanks for the feedback. Some of those cymbol crashes were piercing and ugly. The overheads were the culprit. Was sending too much direct to the 2 bus and not enough to the drum bus. Posting a new mix that hopefully fixes the issue.
